Wolf Alice: 90s Grunge with a Modern Update

A&R Moneyball has been a strong advocate of Wolf Alice’s success ever since they first appeared on our radar back in late 2013 with their single “Bros.” Over a year later, they signed a deal with RCA Records to release their first full length album, My Love Is Cool, showcasing a wide breadth of songwriting and musicianship, ranging from the harder driving “Storms” to the lighter atmospheric tones of “The Wonderwhy,” giving the listener a diverse offering on their sonic journey.
Music:
This London based alt rock band offers a modern update to the grunge sound of the mid 90s with screaming guitars and enveloping walls of sound, accompanied by the whimsical vocals of lead singer Ellie Rowsell. While “Bros” was the track that first drew us to Wolf Alice, their most critically acclaimed track is the playfully named “Moaning Lisa Smile.” The band also expresses their creativity and artistry through other media as can be seen in their music video for “You’re A Germ,” which finds the band stuck in a continuously looped nightmare of an homage to classic horror films.
Future:
Within their first year of being signed to major label, Wolf Alice has sold out 18,000 capacity venues in secondary markets, had 11 Billboard chart appearances, and have a combined total of more than 11 million streams on Spotify. However, their most impressive feat to date is their 2016 Grammy nomination in the “Rock Performance” category. While they have strong competition from the likes of rock legends like Foo Fighters and indie vets Florence + The Machine and Alabama Shakes, it is an honor to be nominated and a sign of great things to come.
