Yung Dash: Lyrics, Beat, and Flow
March 3, 2016
This week’s featured artist is Yung Dash, who saw an increase of 176% on the A&R Moneyball charts this past week, landing him third overall on the chart, with his single “Momma I Made It.” This track comes from his debut album, titled Under the Curtains, which was released late last year. “Momma I Made It” already has over one hundred times as many streams on Spotify as any of his other tracks from the album. Something that really grabbed our attention is how each track on the album actually has a very distinctly different sound to it.
When listening to “Momma I Made It,” the first thing you notice is the solid beat laying the backbone for the track. It incorporates drums that get your head nodding with some light synths and an almost haunting vocal riff. Then the actual vocals come in, highlighting great
flow, as the syllables are both punctuated and perfectly syncopated with the backing beat. On top of that, the lyrics tell the story of someone who was raised right and had his life on track until losing his mother, which led to a dark path until finally emerging as the rapper we hear on the track.
As mentioned, “Momma I Made It” is Yung Dash’s most successful single to date, seeing almost a quarter of a million streams on Spotify. The track excels at what are arguably the three most important elements of a rap song (lyrics, beat, and flow), which is very promising for Yung Dash’s future. The overall uniqueness of each track on the album also shows Yung Dash’s breadth of creativity, promising some more interesting tracks for the future. Yung Dash should also look to increase his social presence with very little info currently available.
